Is Climate change a priority for African Youth?

There is a consensus that global climate change presents one of the greatest challenges of our generation. On the show we wanted to start a conversation on some of the important questions around this issue. Do we talk about climate change; do we understand the urgency of our action on climate change? Etc. In a few weeks, all eyes will be focused on Durban—that is where the big COP17 U.N. Climate Change Conference will take place. It is expected that high-ranking officials—mainly policy makers-- from the community of nations will meet to discuss solutions and secure a global climate agreement. Our listeners sent us some comments and messages intended for their representatives going to Durban. We feature many of them, and pictures from our correspondent in South Sudan Mugume Davis Rwakaringi.
On the show we had Teddy Ruge—a social media expert working with a World Bank led initiative Connect4Climate. He discusses his efforts to leverage technology in getting African youth to be part of this important conversation. On the show we also had my colleague Henok Fente, recently returned from a long trip to the horn of Africa. He saw firsthand the effects of climate change in the region.

Climate change is one of the major problems all over the world. Yes, it is a great challenge that every nation should give priority. I do agree that the youth are the hope of every nation so it is important to African youth to be part of global climate change conversations for them to become more aware of its cause and effect.

I agree with the comments above. It's really a great challenge not only for Africa but also with other nations. I am so glad then the issues was brought in public so that individuals may understand what's the effect of a climate change in our surroundings.

We could say that we are still lucky rather than those people in Africa, I think they are first to filter the effect of Climate change,,, water is their big problem. We are the one causing the climate change and therefore it is time for us to clean what we have done.
